Aqueduct works update - site investigations kick off in March

7 March 2024

Barwon Water is progressing plans to undertake works on the Ovoid Sewer Aqueduct and open up public access along the Barwon River.

We have been spending time planning for how the works will be carried out safely and continuing to work with our contractor, engineers and heritage advisers to determine the best approach. The aqueduct conservation and river opening works are unique and complex, with many stakeholders, and works being undertaken on an intermittently inundated floodplain.

We are committed to taking the time needed to deliver this tremendously exciting project safely. It will be a special place for generations of Geelong people for years to come.

Geotechnical investigations to kick off in March

As part of planning for the main works on the aqueduct, we are undertaking geotechnical investigations on site from mid-March to mid-April. This includes preparing access tracks, geotechnical testing and monitoring for vibrations to confirm the design and construction methodology.

All work will take place on Barwon Water land, behind Barwon Assets Solutions, on Kadak Place, Breakwater. There will be no works within the footprint of the aqueduct structure.
