Kitjarra-dja-bul Bullarto langi-ut – final masterplan launched

18 March 2024

Kitjarra-dja-bul Bullarto langi-ut is an initiative to connect the community to the Lower Moorabool and Lower Barwon River corridor by balancing public access, recreation, economic opportunities and education while enhancing the area’s unique cultural and environmental values. The project area extends from the Moorabool River near Meredith, through to the Barwon River in Geelong and onto the estuary at Barwon Heads.

The project encompasses an extensive corridor of river frontage on Wadawurrung Country, including the internationally recognised Lake Connewarre wetlands and the spectacular Barwon River estuary. Kitjarra- dja-bul Bullarto langi-ut is the Wadawurrung name for the project previously known as the Barwon River Parklands and translates to “places of many stories”.

The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA) is the lead agency on Kitjarra-dja-bul Bullarto langi-ut on behalf of a broader group of partners. Barwon Water has been fortunate to work with CCMA and other agencies to ensure a collaborative and considered approach for key sites along the river. For us, this includes Porronggitj Karrong – the 66 hectares of land surrounding the Ovoid Sewer Aqueduct in Geelong, which we are transforming into a new living cultural landscape and community precinct, in partnership with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.
