Safety works on access tracks at Porronggitj Karrong

19 January 2026

We’re starting important safety works on the access tracks at the Porronggitj Karrong and Aqueduct site at the end of Tanner Street in Breakwater. These works will begin in January 2026 and are expected to finish by the end of May 2026.

Why are we doing this?

Recent wet weather has made the tracks unsafe and difficult to navigate. To ensure safe and reliable access for vehicles and people, we’ll be upgrading the tracks by:

  • increasing the track stability with crushed rock
  • ensuring the final surface is smooth and suitable for safe access
  • increasing the tracks resilience to weather events.

Safe access is essential for ongoing site inspections, maintenance activities and emergency response if required.

What to expect during the works:

  • All work will occur on Barwon Water land at the end of Tanner Street.
  • Please be mindful of heavy vehicles entering and exiting the site.
  • There may be some increased noise and dust during construction - we’ll work to minimise impacts on neighbours and the environment.
  • Some material may need to be removed from the site. All waste disposals will follow environmentally sustainable practices.

Once complete, these improvements will make the site safer and more accessible for current and future activities.
