Have your say to help shape the future of Murrk Ngubitj Yarram Yaluk

11 April 2023

Stage three – seeking your feedback on the draft concept plan.

Barwon Water’s commitment to Caring for Country is the cornerstone of the Murrk Ngubitj Yarram Yaluk project, where more than 30 hectares of environmental and public open space that enhances the unique and natural features of the Bellarine Peninsula will be opened for the community to enjoy.

Following extensive Traditional Owners, community and key stakeholder engagement, we have developed a draft concept plan for Murrk Ngubitj Yarram Yaluk to demonstrate what the layout and activities could look like in a map-based form.

This has been developed in collaboration with our agency advisory group – which includes Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, Department of Energy, Environment, Climate Action, Corangamite Catchment Management Authority and City of Greater Geelong.

We are committed to applying a Caring for Country approach to our land and waterways in partnership with Traditional Owners, other agencies and community members.

The site uses (things positioned on the site) and activities (recreation on the site) included in the concept plan support the space’s cultural and environmental values, and our commitment to open this land for public use and recreational purposes.

Key elements include:

  • Space for natural biodiversity
  • Walking trails
  • Gathering / picnic spaces
  • Quiet spaces / lookout points
  • An environmental and cultural education centre
  • Public toilets
  • Carpark

Transforming the site and implementing all the actions agreed with our community will be carried out progressively over a number of years. These actions may be subject to detailed design and future funding opportunities.

Have your say on the concept plan via the survey tab.

Hard copies of the feedback form are available on request via projects@barwonwater.vic.gov.au or 1300 656 007.

Closing date for feedback: Wednesday 10 May 2023.
