Ocean Grove Surfside Probus Group visits Murrk Ngubitj Yarram Yaluk

3 June 2025

On Monday 3 March we were pleased to host the Ocean Grove Surfside Probus Group at Murrk Ngubitj Yarram Yaluk.

The project team took the 14 members on a site tour, explaining the history of the site and exciting plans to come.

The water basin was used from the 1930s until it was decommissioned in 2011 following supply system upgrades that meant it was no longer required for operational purposes. The aim of this project is to protect and enhance the unique habitats, ecosystems and biodiversity of the Bellarine, including native vegetation and native fauna.

The next stage of the project involves transforming the site and implementing the actions agreed with our community.

The team discussed the importance of the long-term select pine tree removal plan, and how the Friends Of Murrk Ngubitj Yarram Yaluk group have been revegetating and weeding on site.

Visitors waited patiently in the hope of spotting the wedge-tailed eagle mating pair but unfortunately had no luck.

The group enjoyed spotting other wildlife and look forward to the site’s opening in late 2025.
