Brine pipeline construction commencing

15 August 2025

To effectively manage the brine (saltwater waste) from the new treatment plant (at the Portarlington Reclamation Plant), Barwon Water is constructing a new dedicated brine pipeline to transfer this waste into our existing sewerage network.

Coatsworth Road – early September to late December 2025

  • Coatsworth Road from the Portarlington Water Reclamation Plant to Queenscliff Road, as shown in the map below.

Work will take place Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm. If Saturday work is required, this will take place between 7am and 1pm.

As part of this work, please note:

  • Work will take place in the nature strip on the northern side of Coatsworth Road.
  • There will be some changes to traffic conditions, including a partial lane closure on Coatsworth Road. Traffic management will be present on site to ensure the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles.
  • There may be increased noise and dust. We will aim to minimise impacts to residents and businesses.
  • Some properties along Coatsworth Road will have limited driveway access for one day during the work while we dig a trench and lay the new brine pipeline. Impacted property owners will be notified seperately about the timing of these works. Driveway reinstatement will take place on the same day.
  • There will be no interruptions to your water and sewerage services as part of these works.

We apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we get these essential works done.

This work is being delivered by Barwon Asset Solutions, a company owned by Barwon Water to deliver high quality asset maintenance and project management services.

Further work will take place in late 2025 and 2026.
