Clifton Springs PSV for the Bellarine Peninsula recycled water upgrade

28 September 2021

Construction commencing: Wednesday 29 September - Friday 22 October 2021

Barwon Water is committed to achieving zero waste by 2030, including recycling 100 percent of the wastewater treated at our water reclamation plants. As part of this commitment, we are maximising the use of recycled water to support agricultural production, tourism and regional prosperity for the Bellarine.

Recycled water is wastewater (residential sewage and industrial trade waste) treated and disinfected to a safe standard for beneficial reuse. This ultimately saves valuable drinking water from being used for agricultural purposes.

We currently supply Class C recycled water to some customers in the area, and we are extending this supply to additional agricultural and horticultural customers, including vineyards along Portarlington Road, from Scotchmans Road to Church Road. Construction of the new pipeline is set to commence in October 2021.

Pressure sustaining valve installation

As part of this project, we are installing a pressure sustaining valve (PSV) within Beacon Point Reserve, near the existing Barwon Water pump station at the Edgewater Drive and Beacon Point Road intersection (refer to map below). The PSV will reduce risk of leaks and bursts in the network.

Construction is set to commence on Wednesday 29 September is expected to be completed Friday 22 October. Activities will occur Monday to Friday, between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. If Saturday work is required, this will be between 7 am and 1 pm.

As part of this work, please note:

  • We will install temporary fencing around the work site to ensure public safety during construction.
  • The road and Edgewater carpark will remain open.
  • Access to private properties, and for emergency vehicles, will be maintained at all times.
  • During construction, there may be increased noise and dust. We will aim to minimise impacts to local residents.
  • We will install an acoustic enclosure to minimise ongoing noise from the PSV.
  • We will reinstate the area upon completion of works. No vegetation will be removed.
  • Water supply will not be interrupted as part of these works.

We apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we get these essential works done.
