Portarlington Water Reclamation Plant upgrade: Construction commencing

1 November 2024

We’re upgrading the Portarlington Water Reclamation Plant on Grassy Point Road. The upgrade will involve constructing a new treatment plant to produce fit-for-purpose recycled water at a significantly lower salinity level than the existing high salinity Class C water.

Construction works

Work on the new treatment plant is scheduled to commence in mid-November 2024 and is anticipated to be completed by mid-2026 (weather dependent).

Work will take place Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 6 pm. If Saturday works are required, this will occur between 7 am and 1 pm.

Construction works will take place at Barwon Water's Portarlington Water Reclamation Plant on Grassy Point Road.

As part of these works, please note there will be:

  • increased construction vehicles travelling along Grassy Point Road, Church Road and Coatsworth Road. The frequency and movement will vary during the upgrade works.
  • increased noise and dust from construction activities and vehicles. We’ll aim to minimise impacts to nearby residents and businesses.
  • no impact to private property access for residents, and emergency service access will be maintained at all times.
  • no interruptions to water or sewerage services during the work.

We apologise for any inconvenience.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we get these essential works done.

The project is supported by funding from the Australian and Victorian governments, delivered in partnership with Barwon Water.
