Portarlington WRP upgrade update and new brine pipeline construction commencing

19 September 2025

Portarlington Water Reclamation Plant upgrade: update

Works are progressing on the upgrade to the Portarlington WRP, with the new building slab, frame and roof complete, and excellent progress being made internally. We’ve also started work on the tank installation and water treatment infrastructure (see photos below).

New brine pipeline: construction commencing

To effectively manage the brine (saltwater waste) from the new treatment plant, we’re constructing a new dedicated brine pipeline to transfer this saltwater waste into our existing sewerage network. It will transfer the waste into our existing sewerage network.

The brine pipeline will travel along Coatsworth Road, Scotchmans Road, Panorama Court and High Ridge Drive, as shown in the map below.

Construction of the pipeline will be commencing along Coatsworth Road in October 2025, from the Portarlington Water Reclamation Plant to Queenscliff Road, as shown in the map below.

  • Work will take place Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 6 pm.
  • If Saturday work is required, this will take place between 7 am and 1 pm.

Work on the remaining pipeline length will take place in late 2025 and 2026.

We’ll continue engaging with local landowners over the coming months.
