About the project
Barwon Water is upgrading an existing sewer pipeline which runs through sections of the Geelong CBD.
The Ovoid sewer pipeline is a critical asset for the greater Geelong sewerage system, transporting wastewater to the Black Rock Water Reclamation Plant. This upgrade will ensure we can continue to provide high quality, secure and affordable water services to the Geelong community.
As part of planning for these works, our crew will be working within the road reserve along parts of Malop Street and Bellerine Street to perform condition assessments in mid-November 2025.
Construction works are expected to commence from mid-2026, and we will keep local residents and businesses informed throughout the project.
Why does the pipeline need to be upgraded?
Originally built in 1917, the Ovoid Sewer pipeline is a critical asset for the greater Geelong sewerage system, transporting the region’s wastewater to the Black Rock Water Reclamation Plant.
Due to the age and condition of the pipeline, we’re prioritising these upgrades to reduce the risk of blockages and other failures.
This critical project is part of our ongoing commitment to providing high quality, secure and affordable water and sewerage services to the Geelong community.
