Community information session

Barwon Water hosted a community information session in Forrest on 24 May from 4pm to 7pm.

There was a good turnout from the community, with 23 people attending the sessions to learn more about a range of Barwon Water projects, including:

o East Barwon willow removals project

o The wastewater investigation

o Water treatment plant upgrade

o Other supporting Landcare and catchment management projects

o The Draft Water for our Future Strategy and an update on the progress of Barwon Water’s 2023-28 Price Submission

Barwon Water Chief Scientist Will Buchanan was at the meeting and said range of conversations were had on the above topics.

“There were many great conversations and reflections shared with the Barwon Water staff on the night, on the upgrade to the water treatment plant, the wastewater project and questions of clarification around roles and responsibilities for land and waterway management issues in the Upper Barwon catchment.”

Barwon Water-sponsored Deakin PhD student Mariah Sampson was also in attendance. Mariah is embedded with the Barwon Water Catchment's team as part of the East Barwon Willow Removal project and was on hand to share insights into her study of the effects of willow removal and the physical characteristics of riparian restoration on water quality, microclimate, and morphology.

If you were unable to attend the session, a copy of the information posters that were on display have been made available at Barwon Water’s Forrest Community Hub webpage, you can access this by visiting: https://www.yoursay.barwonwater.vic.gov.au/77485/widgets/375024/documents/234092 to the document library document>
