Barwon Water update

Land management highlights - East Barwon Willows update

Land management is an important part of catchment health. This is what helps keep our rivers healthy and flowing – part of our community’s Water for our Future vision.

Barwon Water is leading the $4 million project to remove willows and restabilise 4km of the East Barwon River to support water security and waterway health which is progressing well.

Stage 2 of the project involves realignment of the river and removing willows 500m downstream of Barwon Water’s Wurdee Boluc Inlet Channel offtake.

These works are expected to commence and be completed over the 2023/2024 summer period.

Working with Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA)

We work closely with the Corangamite CMA to support catchment and waterway health. This includes contributing annually to on ground works for river health projects in water supply catchments, plus delivery of key projects such the East Barwon River and Dewings Creek willow removal and revegetation. We look forward to continuing this important work through supporting the delivery of the Upper Barwon Flagship Project.

We support the Corangamite CMA Citizen Science program, which helps provide for the ongoing coordination of waterwatch programs and the facilitation of community education and participation in waterway events and monitoring activities across the Corangamite region.

Learn more about how you can be involved via the Corangamite CMA link on our Forrest Hub.

Did you know 1 megalitre (ML) is roughly 6,670 full standard bath tubs?

The average bath contains around 150 litres water.

Throughout March, we need to let a minimum of 4ML pass through our reservoir every day to help the ecology and river health flourish downstream. That’s around 26,680 full bath tubs each day!
