Water Matters drops into Lorne, and what’s next for Lorne: Water Your Say

31 January 2024

Barwon Water’s new Water Matters campaign is in full swing, with much-loved mascot Drop out and about across the region over summer.

Drop and the team are sharing knowledge about the value and importance of water, and how we can all work together to meet the challenges of future water security.

Barwon Water General Manager Customers, Community and Strategy Laura Kendall said the session with the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club Nippers in January was a highlight of the summer.

“We asked our friend ‘Drop’ to drop some knowledge about why water matters and how to save water with young nippers and family members as part of our community education program.

“Water is such a huge part of everyday life. We use it to hydrate our bodies, cook our food, and to clean all sorts of things. We also use it for sports, recreation and various industries across the region.

“Staying hydrated makes sense if you know we are all made up of more than 70 per cent water – without it, humans literally can't survive,” she said.

“The health of our natural environment depends on water too.

”Our region is growing, and more people need to share our wonderful water.

“But with rainfall becoming more unreliable, shaping a future where rivers flow, food grows and our footprint is low is going to take not only water savings, but also water smarts and new water sources.”
