Barwon Water is calling for customers who are passionate about their community to share their insights and make a positive impact in the region.

Nominations for the water utility’s Customer Advisory Committee (CAC) are now open and individuals are asked to step forward and fill some vacancies in the established group which represents Barwon Water’s customers and community.

Interim Managing Director Shaun Cumming said that the committee seeks to be representative of Barwon Water’s customer base and the diverse communities in the region, and he hoped the process would attract people of all ages from a range of locations, backgrounds and interests.

“If you’re passionate about our region, the community, our environment and how water plays a vital role in all aspects of life, we’re keen to hear from you,” Mr Cumming said.

Mr Cumming also encouraged First Nations customers to apply and said Barwon Water values the perspectives of First peoples who have shared a strong connection to Country and Waterways for tens of thousands of years.

The Customer Advisory Committee works closely with Barwon Water on the development of strategies, programs and projects that optimise customer experience and hardship support programs, address climate change and other challenges, ensuring water security for the region’s community, now and for the future.

Membership of the CAC is for a three-year period, after which time members will be invited to reapply. Meetings will be conducted on a quarterly basis. The committee meets in-person and online; and committee members are invited to participate in excursions to Barwon Water facilities where they enjoy a unique behind-the-scenes view of the infrastructure we all rely on daily.

Mr Cumming thanked past and present members for their generous and crucial contributions and encouraged potential future members to get in touch.

“The CAC is a great way to make a difference in your local community and contribute to projects that will drive regional prosperity,” Mr Cumming said.

Applications are open until 1 September 2023.
