Community safety prioritised: new speed limit on Black Rock Road

18 December 2024

As part of our ongoing community engagement on the Regional Renewable Organics Network (RRON) facility, we’ve listened to community feedback regarding the anticipated increase in traffic and the speed limit on Black Rock Road.

Traffic is expected to increase on Black Rock Road once construction begins in 2025, pending development license and planning permit approvals. Once the facility is fully operational, in 2026, trucks transporting organic waste, digestate, and biochar, will travel to and from the site each weekday.

Community members have expressed concerns about safety, especially due to the road's high-speed limit of 100km/h and its shared use by cars, trucks, and cyclists. In response, we’ve collaborated closely with the City of Greater Geelong to reassess the speed limit on Black Rock Road.

We’re pleased to announce that, the speed limit along Black Rock road has been reduced to 80 km/h. New speed limit signs have been installed to reflect this change, ensuring enhanced safety for all road users around the RRON facility.

We value your input and encourage you to contact our project team if you’d like more information or wish to share additional feedback.
