About the project

Barwon Water is extending our recycled water supply network from Mount Duneed through to Deakin University in Waurn Ponds, where Class A recycled will be used to maintain the sporting fields.

We are committed to achieving zero waste by 2030, and this project will help us better utilise recycled water and save precious drinking water supplies.

This partnership project with Deakin will see Barwon Water deliver 100 ML per year of recycled water to the campus as part of the university’s integrated water management plan (IWMP).

Construction

Construction of the 6.2km pipeline extension is scheduled to commence in June 2025 and be completed by early-2026. Construction activities will occur Monday to Friday, between 7.30am and 5.30pm. If Saturday work is required, it will take place between 7am and 1pm.

The pipeline alignment route:

  • road reserve/edge of seal for most of Ghazeepore Road
  • west under the south side of Hams Road
  • north-east along the easement beside Geelong Ring Road/Princes Highway
  • cross Colac Road and terminate before the access junction in front of Deakin University.

Impacts

During construction, there will be some local impacts. We will aim to minimise impacts to the local community and will keep local residents and businesses informed throughout the project.

Below is some helpful information to be aware of.

There may be some increased noise, dust and vibrations at different times. Barwon Water will aim to minimise impacts to residents.

During works, there will be some altered traffic conditions. Barwon Water will confirm dates and times for any altered traffic conditions and encourage the local community to allow extra time to complete journeys safely.

At this stage, access to private properties for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works.

In the event we need to alter any access to private property driveways, Barwon Water will be in contact to discuss this, ahead of any works commencing.

Some properties connected to Barwon Water’s network may experience disruptions to their water service during the works. If this impacts your property, you will be notified with further information.

Some trees and vegetation will be removed or trimmed as part of these works. Barwon Water has conducted detailed flora and fauna assessments to ensure minimal disruption to native plants and animals during construction.
