Great Ocean Road, Lorne -Sewer pump station upgrade

4 April 2025

Barwon Water is upgrading the sewer pump station located at 179 Great Ocean Road, Lorne, as part of our ongoing asset renewal program. These essential works will help improve sewerage services to properties and reduce risks of leaks and bursts in the area.

Some work has occurred to create a temporary diversion for sewage and temporary fencing has been erected at the pump station.

Work will halt during the school holidays to ensure minimal impact to our customers. The Stony Creek walking trail will remain open over the Easter break.

Further work is scheduled from 5 May 2025. Work will take place between 7.30 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Please refer to the map below for the location of these works.

What to expect during construction

  • There may be increased noise and dust from increased truck movements. We will aim to minimise impacts to local residents and businesses.
  • You may notice some odour, as we are working with sewage. This is not harmful to people or pets, and we will work to minimise any impacts to nearby residents.
  • Access to driveways and private property will be maintained.
  • We will reinstate the area upon completion of works, ensuring it is left in good condition.
  • There will be no interruptions to your water and sewerage services as part of these works.

As part of this work, please note:

  • There will be some changes to traffic conditions, including reduced speed limit on Great Ocean Road, Lorne. Traffic management will be present on site to ensure the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles.
  • Access to the Stony Creek Walk will be restricted to pedestrians during construction work hours. Alternative nearby walks include:
    • Cumberland River
    • Erskine River Falls
    • Cora Lyn Cascades
    • Shipwreck Plaques Walk (foreshore)
    • Bridge Circuit
