Day and night works at the corner of Myers and Bellerine streets - 18 & 19 April

17 April 2024

Barwon Water is undertaking emergency works to clear a large sewer blockage on Bellerine Street, Geelong.

The blockage has been caused by a build-up of food scraps, non-flushable wet wipes, sanitary items and other rubbish.

To help support clearing the large blockage in the sewer pipe, we need to undertake works at the intersection of Myers and Bellerine streets during the day and overnight between 7 am Thursday 18 April and 5 pm Friday 19 April.

Myers Street will be closed on the eastern side of the Bellerine St roundabout
from 8pm Thursday 18 April until 6am Friday 19 April.

To access the maternity entrance at University Hospital during this time
please approach from Swanston Street.

We will reopen the road to reduce the impact on peak morning traffic; however, speed reduction zones will remain in place.

During these emergency works please note:

  • Trucks and machinery will be in place near the sewer maintenance hole at the corner of Myers and Bellerine streets.
  • Temporary fencing will be in place to support community safety during the works.
  • There may be a loss of carparking near the work site.
  • Traffic management will be in place to support the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
  • You may notice noise from the sewer pumps and trucks.
  • You may experience some odour, as we are working with sewage. This is not harmful to people or pets, and we will work to minimise any impacts to nearby residents.
  • We will reinstate the area upon completion of works, ensuring it is left in good condition.
  • There will be no interruptions to your water and sewerage services as part of these works.

We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete these emergency works.
