Corner Malop and Bellerine Streets - ongoing works

17 April 2024

Barwon Water is undertaking emergency works to clear a large sewer blockage on Bellerine Street, Geelong.

The blockage has been caused by a build-up of food scraps, non-flushable wet wipes, sanitary items and other rubbish.

To help support clearing the large blockage in the sewer pipe, we have installed additional sewerage infrastructure inside a maintenance hole near the corner of Malop and Bellerine streets to help divert sewage away from the blockage site.

As part of this work, please note:

  • Trucks, machinery and other equipment will remain in place near the sewer maintenance hole at the corner of Malop and Bellerine streets until the blockage is cleared.
  • There may be a loss of carparking near the work site.
  • Traffic management will remain in place on the south eastern corner of Malop and Bellerine to support the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians. This support will remain until the blockage is cleared.
  • You may experience some minor odour, as we are working with sewage. This is not harmful to people or pets, and we will work to minimise any impacts to nearby residents.
  • We will reinstate the area upon completion of works, ensuring it is left in good condition.
  • There will be no interruptions to your water and sewerage services as part of these works.

We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete these emergency works.
