Community update - October 2024

23 October 2024

The construction of the Gellibrand Water Treatment Plant (WTP) upgrade is progressing smoothly, ensuring the plant will be well-equipped to meet the future needs of our community. This upgrade is a key part of Barwon Water’s long-term strategy to enhance infrastructure and improve water treatment capabilities.

Key milestones achieved so far:

  • The new bushfire-resilient Process Building has been constructed, and the installation of mechanical equipment inside is currently underway.
  • A new Dissolved Air Filtration Unit, which will serve as the primary water treatment system, has been installed. When brought online, this will significantly improve water quality and operational efficiency.
  • The site’s electrical supply has been upgraded, along with the installation of the new main switchboard.
  • Several underground assets have been installed in preparation for planned infrastructure.

This upgrade will result in a more bushfire-resilient, reliable, and efficient water treatment plant, ensuring the continuous delivery of high-quality, affordable, and secure water services for Barwon Water customers and the wider community.
